Call for proposals | analysis of the governance landscape and evaluation of Twaweza’s Sauti za Wananchi initiative in Kenya

Twaweza East Africa is a non-governmental organization operating in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. Twaweza means “we can make it happen” in Swahili. The organization works to demonstrate effective citizen agency in solving their local systemic problems, amplifying citizens’ voices and ensuring that citizens’ views are taken seriously in decision making and promoting and protecting open civic space in the region.

Twaweza is seeking applications from suitable individual consultants to conduct a situational analysis of the Kenya governance (civic space) landscape and gather critical feedback through individual in-depth interviews with selected key informants from the media, civil society community, academics/researchers, public sector (both at National and County level), donor community and international organizations on Twaweza Kenya’s work. 


At minimum, the CONSULTANT must possess the following:

  1. Proven experience/understanding of Kenya’s governance and/or civic space context.
  2. Deep understanding and familiarity with civil society work in Kenya and in the East African region
  3. Good understanding of citizen agency and public policy advocacy environment in Kenya.
  4. A proven track record of relevant qualitative research experience.
  5. Excellent analytical and report writing skills.
  6. Strong communication skills in English and Kiswahili Languages: reading, writing and speaking.
  7. Personal skills: good communication, analytical and drafting skills;
