Outgoing Head of Twaweza, Rakesh Rajani, to join Ford Foundation in New York

Twaweza's founder and head, Rakesh Rajani, will be joining the Ford Foundation as Director of Democratic Participation and Governance. He will start work in this new post, which is based in New York, US, on January 12, 2015.

The Ford Foundation supports organisations and visionary leaders in social change worldwide. The foundation's goals are to strengthen democratic values, reduce poverty and injustice, and promote international cooperation.

In the Tanzanian press, the response to Rakesh's new appointment - and departure from Tanzania - has been extensive and reflective. The Citizen, on October 21, made the story their front page lead: Rakesh goes global, get's top post in US. They followed this a few days later with an extended profile: Rakesh Rajani: Changing the world, one challenge at a time. Raia Mwema also ran a profile article, on October 29: Rakesh Rajani: Siri ya mafanikio yangu ni kufikiri tofauti (The Secret of my success is to think different).
