Uwazi research analyst questions inflation numbers

Officially, the economy is doing well, but some experts and most ordinary wananchi are lamenting the current tough times caused by the rising cost of living, mostly because of the skyrocketing prices of basic consumer goods and essential services.

Most of the people interviewed by The Citizen on Sunday said the official statistics, which portray a healthy economy, do not reflect the reality on the ground, which is a story of increasing difficulty to make ends meet, especially for low income earners, the unemployed and rural folks. But financial analyst Fortius Rutabingwa said in Dar es Salaam that during national elections, economic numbers are “often massaged”, even in the developed democracies to influence voters.
