The East African weekly newspaper is asking governments in the region to change focus of education in primary schools to real literacy. The paper cites Uwezo findings in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda which show that inputs in the education sector are not being translated into learning outcomes that could spur East Africa's economic growth.
