Learning inequalities in Kenya favour children from wealthier families

“Article 53 of Kenya’s constitution emphasizes every child has an equal right to education however the question we raise is ‘does every child have an equal opportunity?” says Sara Ruto, the Uwezo Regional Manager.
The findings of the “When Will Our Children Learn? Persistent inequalities in Kenyan Education” policy brief confirm that the actual quality of learning is quite low, inequalities in education favour the rich and the need for greater parental involvement and additional resources to improve the performance of the education system. This brief follows up on the findings of the Annual Learning Assessment report released by Uwezo in April 2010 following research in 72 Kenyan districts. To access this publication please click here.
