Twaweza East Africa is recruiting Lead Facilitators (3) and Research Assistants (6) for the Wasemavyo Vijana (What Youth Say) study in Kenya.

This study is part of Twaweza’s effort to generate grounded, evidence-based insights into young people’s lived realities, including their aspirations, agency, constraints, and perspectives on governance and society.

Fieldwork will take place in Busia, Kitui, and Murang’a, using participatory and youth-centred research approaches.

Roles Overview

Lead Facilitators (3 positions)
Each Lead Facilitator will:

  • Lead participatory data collection (FGDs, youth dialogues, storytelling methods)
  • Coordinate fieldwork at the county level
  • Supervise Research Assistants
  • Ensure data quality, ethical compliance, and daily synthesis of findings
  • Produce county summaries and a final analytical report

Research Assistants (6 positions)
Each Research Assistant will:

  • Support participatory data collection and facilitation
  • Take detailed notes and capture key insights
  • Transcribe and translate data
  • Support logistics and participant coordination
  • Ensure proper documentation and ethical compliance

Duration

  • Lead Facilitators: ~18 working days
  • Research Assistants: ~15 working days
    Starting mid-April 2026

Who We’re Looking For

Lead Facilitators

  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences or related field
  • Strong experience in qualitative research and participatory methods
  • Proven facilitation and team leadership skills
  • Ability to synthesise and report qualitative insights
  • Experience working in the county applied for is an advantage

Research Assistants

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in social sciences or related field
  • Experience in qualitative research and participatory approaches
  • Strong note-taking, transcription, and organisational skills
  • Ability to work effectively with youth and diverse communities

For both roles:

  • Fluency in English and relevant local languages
  • Strong understanding of youth issues and ethical research practice
