Tumusiime Peruth: A Change Agent Leading the Way

Tumusiime Peruth is a native of Habuhinga village. After doing a second round of training, she now feels more confident about her role as a Change Agent.

In many ways, the 33-year-old says she finds her role more simplified because the sub-county speaker comes from her village, and they are neighbours. She says the speaker has become a reliable and vital ally in mobilizing villagers for meetings.

She describes their collaboration as an unexpected bond, transcending age, gender barriers and political status.

Tumusiime is grateful that she hasn’t faced any scepticism from her community simply because of her young age or gender. It is a testament to her charisma and determination

Her village, a scenic haven overlooking hills is home to just over a hundred residents. She describes it as an oasis of beauty and community.

Her proudest achievement as a change agent lies in her newfound confidence. Through training, she shed her shyness as she confidently addressed meetings and led discussions.

This transformation has resonated profoundly, with nearly half the village attending her meetings—an impressive feat for a community of her size.

Navigating the challenges of her role, Tumusiime recognizes that some participants expect refreshments at meetings. Despite these expectations, she has been standing firm, emphasizing the priority of community development over personal wants.

To her relief, the commitment of attendees has remained unwavering, underscoring their shared dedication to community progress.

In pursuit of economic improvement, Tumusiime and her community have devised a self-initiative to address low income. They are contributing to a fund that purchases materials for soap and vaseline production. This endeavour has not only equipped households with essential skills but also fostered a spirit of self-sufficiency.

Looking forward, Tumusiime’s vision for her village is rooted in water security and enhanced vocational skills, especially among women. She dreams of a transformed community where families are not only self-reliant but also equipped with the tools to craft a brighter future.
